PRINCETON, KY The Tennessee Valley Battalion, made up of ten Civil War Reenactment Company’s from seven states, has voted to become a Host Unit at the Battle of Eddyville in April, 2012.  The event will commemorate  two incidents that occurred in Lyon County,Kentucky during the War between the States.  The TVB action took place at their Annual Winter Meeting in Princeton, Kentucky on January 7.

Event planners are expecting about 500 Civil War Reenactors to participate in the three-day event.   “We are happy to have the support of the TVB for our event because they represent a significant number of Reenactors in this part of the country,” said Jim Atchison, Event Coordinator for the Battle of Eddyville.  Atchison estimated that the Battalion represents about 300 troops.  “Of course not all of them will be able to attend but we appreciate the support of such a dedicated group,” he continued.

BREAKING NEWS

Authentic 1860’s String Band will perform at Battle of Eddyville

The 52nd Regimental String Band from Memphis, TN will be featured performers at the Grand Ball at the Battle of Eddyville Reenactment.  Dressing in reproduction clothes, these talented living historians use “period type” instruments and vocals to entertain and perform a variety of 19th century songs.  The Grand Ball will be at 7:30 PM, Saturday, April 28 at the Lyon County Convention Center in Lee S. Jones Park.  In addition the band will be making appearances throughout the reenactment.

The group has received numerous awards for their work in historic preservation.  They maintain the integrity of a Civil War Reenactment by staying in “musical character” at all times.  Only songs from the Civil War or pre-Civil War era are played.

“I’ve heard them at other events and saw the enthusiasm they bring to their shows.  When I found out they were available, I knew we had to bring them to Eddyville.  They entertain in such variety of ways and have great interaction with their audiences,” said Jim Atchison, Event Coordinator for the reenactment.

In addition to the Grand Ball, the band will be performing at the Hymns of the Civil War portion of the period Worship Service beginning at 8 AM on Sunday, April 28th.  Dr. Jerrell White will conduct the period service. The public is invited to attend all events.  There is no charge for the Sunday morning service.  Contributions at the door will be given to the Lyon County Ministerial Association.

Admission to the park for the reenactment, including the Grand Ball is $8. per car, regardless of the number of occupants.

Dance instructors will be available to assist spectators with the Civil War dances.
